Craniosynostosis: Lambdoidal Synostosis
The lambdoidal suture is on the back of the skull and follows a path similar to an upside-down V (known as lambda in the Greek alphabet).
Posterior plagiocephaly is a type of craniosynostosis in which the skull's lambdoidal suture closes before birth, resulting in head and facial asymmetry that could be described as lopsided, as it is slanted toward the back of the affected side. It may be difficult to see if the child has a lot of hair. This kind of craniosynostosis occurs more often in girls than in boys.
