Dr. Salyer was interviewed by the Plastic Surgery News of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons on "Correcting facial deformity on a mentally impaired child can improve development." In the article, Dr. Salyer explains that approximately 10% of his pediatric patients are mentally handicapped, and that improving their appearance helps these children in immeasurable ways. He believes craniofacial surgery provides social ability and acceptability for most of these children.

Dr. Genecov, an avid runner and sports enthusiast, ran in the White Rock Marathon on December 11, 2005. His time was 4:38:13 for a 26.2 mile race.

Dr. Salyer attended the 14th China-Japan Joint Meeting on Plastic Surgery from September 11-13, 2004 in Beijing, China. At the conclusion of this meeting, Dr. Salyer was awarded Honorary Professor by the Plastic Surgery Hospital, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences, Peking Union Medical College.
