Craniosynostosis: Sagittal Synostosis
The sagittal suture is on top of the skull in a line from front to back (or back to front).
Scaphocephaly is a type of craniosynostosis in which the skull's sagittal suture and top soft spot (fontanelle) close before birth, resulting in a long, narrow, boat-like head shape. This is the most common form of craniosynostosis, and occurs more often in boys than girls.
